On Monday, September 28, 2022, Betty Gene Brown, the loving mother of two, passed away at the age of eighty-six.
Along with her beloved sister Rev. Ruth Brown McGill, left Ramseur, NC as a young woman and eventually made her home in Harlem, New York where she resided for over sixty years. Betty worked at the US Post Office for a period of time, but due to a debilitating illness, she left the US Post Office at the age of thirty-one and remained under her doctors’ care until her passing.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Grady Brown Sr.; mother, Lala Brown Staley; stepfather, Herman Levon Staley. Also, Betty was preceded in death by her three siblings: Doretha Brown Robertson [Robert], Grady Brown Jr. [Lula Mae] and Ruth Brown McGill [Bennet].
She is survived by her children Gregg Brown [Sharon] and Kenneth Ray Evans; grandchildren: Gregg Brown Jr. [Sue-Ellen], Vergil Brown [Kelsey]; and great-grandchildren: Gregory, Vanessa, Olive, Lincoln, CoCo, and Georgia along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
