Mrs. Balfour Etrua Staley was born June 10, 1922, in Liberty, North Carolina to the parents of Mr. & Mrs. John and Emma Smith who preceded her in death and also her husband Mr. Colon Staley Jr.
She was the last survivor of seven children. At an early age she gave her life to Christ and began attending church; later joining Oliver’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Staley, NC. Mrs. Balfour attended church for as long as she was in good health.
While attending school she met and married the love of her life Colon (Billy) Staley and through this union she would have three children Dianne Staley, Windell Staley (Mary Lane) and Bonnie Baldwin (Donnie Baldwin). She has had five generations! 3 children, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was a loving mother and grandmother that was always helping her children and grandchildren whenever needed. Mrs. Balfour Staley was a dedicated worker at Liberty Chair Company for about 40 years. After which she retired and helped with her family full-time. In her later years in life, she moved to Liberty Village Apartments and when her health began to decline, she moved one final time to Coventry House. She lived a humble and sweet life. Our mother’s loving memory will always be cherished by her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her beautiful memory will always be treasured by all.
