William Knight Obituary

William Henry Knight was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on December 30, 1943, to the late Jeff S. Knight, Sr. and Elizabeth Bessie Hyman Knight. He transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life to go home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2022.  He was the 2nd son and the 3rd born of 15 children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Ann Suber Knight, his parents, brother Jeff Knight, Jr. and sister Annie Bell Knight Woodard.

William loved the Lord, and it was shown in his daily walk with God. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend with an affectionate personality, beautiful smile and a big caring heart.

William was educated in the Edgecombe County School System and furthered his education at Elizabeth City State University. After moving to Greensboro North Carolina, he was employed by several companies during his career and retired in 2004 from Procter & Gamble after working more than 34 years as a Forman for the Cherry Picker Technician Department.

William joined Friendship Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, N.C. at an early age. After moving to Greensboro, N.C., he met the love of his life, Sallie Ann Suber and they were married in holy matrimony on June 20, 1970.  To this union 4 children were born; Shanda, Rodney, Roderick and Jeffrey. After marriage William joined St. John Baptist Church, Climax, N.C. where he was a very devoted member. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board, on Finance Committee, Pulpit Committee, member of the Male Chorus, Trustee Board, Usher Board, Sunday School member and a member of Ward #3.

William leaves to cherish his loving memories: one daughter, Shanda Knight Pratt (Trevor) High Point, NC; three sons, Rodney Knight (Erica), Roderick Knight (Missy), Jeffrey Knight (Waynetta) all of Greensboro, NC; six brothers, Donald Vernell Knight (Belvin), Robert Lee Knight (Mary), Joseph Hyman Knight (Janice), Gary Ray Knight (Dianne), Alphonso Knight (Tammy) and John Fitzgerald Knight all of Rocky Mount, NC; six sisters, Clara Alexander of Nashville, Tenn., Mary Jane Farmer (Clyde), Marjorie Louise Bell (Danny), Cynthia Pittman (Larry), Brenda Elizabeth Carter (Carner) and Dolly Ann Evans (Richard) all of Rocky Mount, NC; 2 sisters-in-law  Greensboro, N.C., 1 sister-in-law Pleasant Garden, NC, 1 sister-in-law Wilmington, NC, 1 sister-in-law Sanford, NC, 2 brothers-in-law Greensboro, NC, 1 brother-in-law Pleasant Garden, NC, 1 brother-in-law Wilmington, NC and 1 brother-in-law Sanford, NC; ten grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
